Dunop DSST

DSST - Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology (DSST®)

DSST stands for Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology (DSST®)

This is a tire technology that allows driving to continue under certain conditions, even after a loss of tire pressure.

Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology incorporates special reinforcements into the tire sidewalls so that driving may continue for up to 50 miles at speeds up to 55 mph, even after a complete loss of air pressure.

Because of these capabilities, if a DSST tire loses its inflation pressure, the driver may not be aware of such a loss and may continue driving for extended distances at high speeds.

SAFETY NOTE: In order to prevent this abuse of the DSST tires, a special tire pressure monitoring system must be installed on the wheels of any vehicle onto which DSST tires are fitted. The pressure sensors will warn the driver if inflation has been lost so the driving speed can be reduced and the vehicle can be taken to the nearest authorized DSST service location.

A pressure mounting system may be installed as OE on a new vehicle or may be purchased separately.

Advantages of the DSST technology:

  • The patented sidewall construction carries the vehicle's weight even when the tyre is flat
  • Special tyre construction with newly developed compounds and rubber mixtures avoids tyre destruction
  • Even with a complete loss of pressure, acceleration, braking and steering behaviour remains unchanged
  • Continued mobility up to a distance of 80 km / 50 miles at a maximum speed of 80 km/h / 50 mph in normal conditions
  • DSST-tyres can be mounted on any standard rim

Safety Notice!
Dunlop RunOnFlat (DSST) tyres should only be mounted on cars that are designed for run flat tyres and equipped with a fully operating tyre pressure warning device, e.g. Dunlop WARNAIR. A maximum distance of 80km/50 miles and the maximum speed of 80 km/h/50 mph should not be exceeded.
