RSC
The BMW Runflat Tyre system consists of:
- Self supporting tyre - with reinforced inner walls made from heat resistant rubber - that will maintain shape and stability in the event of a puncture, even when the vehicle is fully loaded, driving at speeds of up to 80km/h, and cornering.
- Extended hump rim - maintains the tyre's position on the rim even after a blow-out, and maintains traction, steering and braking.

- Tyre Pressure Monitor - alerts the driver to loss of tyre pressure - a situation that is not noticed in time in 80% of all punctures. The driver adapts by adjusting speed and heading for a BMW Dealership or service station.

- High safety: The vehicle continues on a straight course, even after a sudden or slow puncture on one or several tyres, and remains in control.
- Hassle-free continuation of the journey: Even a fully loaded vehicle with completely deflated tyres can be driven for at least another 150-km at speeds of up to 80-km/h subject to road and weather conditions.

- Increase in comfort and safety: Damaged tyres need no longer be replaced or re-inflated on the spot. This is especially valuable in dangerous or unpleasant situations, like on a motorway or a busy road, in tunnels, at night or in the rain.
- Space and weight saver: By eliminating the need to carry a spare tyre, car jack and tools, the luggage compartment gains extra space. In addition, the weight reduction helps to reduce fuel consumption.
- Tyre Pressure Monitor (TPM): The Tyre Pressure Monitor is an integral part of the system. It recognises a puncture in its early stages, thus preventing potential tyre damage. Sensors will indicate when the tyre pressure drops too low. Experts estimate that between 70 to 80 percent of all tyre failures are caused by a gradual loss of pressure.
